GMA authorized keycard error in Kaba Ilco Reprogramming
I need to know how to re-program our Kaba Ilco. When I swipe the GMA-authorized keycard, it says card error or wrong card is being used.
Suppose your Kaba Ilco system displays a “card error” or “wrong card” message when you swipe the GMA-authorized keycard. In that case, it indicates a problem with the card reading process or the card’s configuration. Here are steps to reprogram and troubleshoot the issue:
- Make sure you are using the right GMA card: It is extremely important to make two spare GMA keycards in case of accidental erasure of the GMA keycard in general use. The spare GMA keycards must have two different authorization numbers not used for any other GMA keycard in the facility. These spare keycards should be stored in a safe. If it is necessary to use one of the spare GMA keycards, immediately make another spare and lock it in the safe.
- Verify the Card and Reader: Ensure the magnetic stripe or chip on the keycard is clean and undamaged. Clean the card reader slot to remove any dust or debris.
- Check Card Compatibility: Confirm that the keycard is compatible with your Kaba Ilco system. Not all keycards work with all systems.
- Reset and Reprogram the Keycard:
- Use your Kaba Ilco front desk unit or programming device to reset the keycard.
- Carefully re-enter the authorization and room data for the GMA keycard.
- Ensure you’re using the correct authorization codes and programming settings.
- Check System Settings: Verify that the front desk unit or programming device functions correctly and is set to the right mode for GMA keycards. Ensure there are no system-wide errors or lockouts affecting card programming.
- Test the Keycard on a Different Door: Try the GMA keycard on a different door lock to rule out a problem with the specific door lock you’re having trouble with.
- Check for Updates or Technical Issues: Ensure your Kaba Ilco system is updated with the latest firmware, as outdated software can lead to compatibility and functionality issues. If your system is part of a network, ensure no network issues are affecting the system’s operation.
When reprogramming keycards, it’s crucial to follow each step precisely to ensure the cards are programmed correctly and to maintain the security integrity of your system.
